Listening to your baby’s heartbeat at home can actually be a really dangerous thing. I get why it appeals to people (who doesn’t want to hear their baby’s heartbeat as reassurance whenever they want?!) but midwives and doctors are trained for years to know what they are listening to. Most of the time you won’t be listening to the baby’s heartbeat, more the placenta and/or the mums heartbeat. If you want to listen to your baby for fun then that’s absolutely fine, I just wanted to raise awareness that it should never be used for reassurance and you should always contact a midwife or doctor if you have any worries about the baby!
