Okay it's not just me. Wizard does it too. 5 mechanics standing around looking at a fluid leak guessing where it is coming from. Me: hmmm it doesn't have the tinge of brake fluid, it's not sweet like antifreeze. It has a bland oil taste but it's very light. So it a leaking from the fluid filled motor mount. 5 mechanics: good eye err ummm tongue.

Well at least that car has no stupid computer modules to worry about. Spark, air and gas baby is all she needs old school. I can add I bought a Trans Am that sat for a few years and that crap they use in gas today ruined the tank, pump and 8 injectors. So expect fuel delivery issues if the entire fuel system was not fully checked.

No, its not a barn find. Its not an anything find. 😂 Its a car you bought that had been sitting in a posh workshop for a couple of years. What is it with you not turning the engine off and continuing to drive when the oil pressure needle is pegged to 0, or the temp needle is pegged to maximum? 😂 Such a masochist.

I'm kind of thinking that Wizard should have changed ALL the fluids. The cooling system should have been flushed before you drove it. That is basic mechanical common sense.

I can hear it knocking after he did all the fluids. Probably done just for video content. Because Wiz says they do all the fluids and make sure they are road ready before sending it. Even when I buy anything used I service all the engine and transmission fluids if it's an automatic.

An LS7 427 would be sweet in there. I only dig those model Vettes and the 80's no humps. But I guess to keep it "Factory-ish" since the engine is original the BBC isn't a slouch either. But that would be the only way I would roll in an old car is with a modern-ish LS Vette engine and suspension upgrade. If I could even afford to do anything. As my daily is a 2000 F-350 7.3 Diesel with 180k original miles. My play car is really a 1993 Chevy S10 with the engine from my 2001 LS1/T-56 Trans Am. To each their own.

I am guessing that the intake manifold is cast iron because it is painted. The redline on the tach is 6,500. There are 2 versions of the passenger car big block Chevy engine in that era. The 6,500 redline means this car was built with the high performance big block, which was 425hp, and had beefier internals. Low performance big blocks redlined at about 5,600. I suspect the engine that was swapped into this car is low performance, so do not rev it to 6,500 Hoovie! A quick check of the engine ID would be time well spent.

That dot or bump would remain there if they painted it again at some point otherwise they'd have to sand it down FLAT to eliminate it and WHY would they bother to do that? I've been a car painter for over 30 years (I have my own shop) and I'd never sand down a bump like that where nobody would see it. What would be the point??

I had to come back to this video after seeing your last one. I noticed at 7:09 when you were leaving the gas station and the temp gauge was pegged at hot. This tells me it probably was overheating for some time before you pulled into that gas station. Then drove it like that for some amount of time after that before you noticed and pulled over. To be honest, that's probably what broke the motor in the end, just some extensive overheating and driving it with 0 oil pressure. Just sending it, gotta appreciate that.

That carburetor has vacuum secondaries, which means when you're sitting there revving it up a little bit the four barrel will not open ... the engine has to be under a load for the back two barrels to open, which means you would have to take it out on the road and floor it

Car sat for 5 years. Replace all the fluids immediately. Flush the engine and radiator and to save yourself some further grief, install a filter on the upper radiator hose to catch the flakes and junk coming from the block for awhile. Carburetor gunked up? Rebuild it or get a new one (which was done). Also either clean or replace the gas tank along with all the fuel lines. This should have all done by "The Wizard" if he truly knew what he was doing.

Looks like this Vette was stored with plain water in the block. No sign of any antifreeze. I have seen cars stored with the same fluid better then 20 years look almost new. Yes 20 years with the same 50/50 mix of Antifreeze looking like new with no signs of brown water in the block. Oil looking like it was just changed. One other thing I noticed being I am a long time Corvette Owner. Looks like this car is originally a small block car and someone put that big block in the car. Notice the battery mounted under the passenger side fender how all small block batteries were mounted. Big Block C2 Corvette Batteries were all mounted under the drivers side fender to the right of the master cylinder. Other then that looks like a very nice find for a ‘66 Coupe. I still own my ‘67 Coupe then I have no plans of parting with. Hopefully I will get to drive it this year in the Northeast. Too many things got in the way of me doing so the last 3 or so years.

I got to drive a 1967 427, 4 speed in Corvette Rally Red. It was a beautiful machine and an absolute beast! I could feel every little crack in the road and it felt as if I was connected to the road, in a pure and primitive way! I'd always thought that I would prefer small block balance, but that rat motor Vette was quite mesmerizing. I drove it in 1997, but it feels like yesterday!

Nothing wrong with Rock Crusher. The gears were more squared-off (Less bevel?) hence quicker shift. Just don't miss a gear!

Assuming the cam has been changed. The original painted cast iron intake 427 had hydraulic lifters. The 427 came in two tunes. The hot one had 425hp aluminum intake, large port heads, solid cam etc. The other had medium port heads-a small port was made for use in trucks-the cast iron intake, hydraulic cam and smaller carburetor. It was the basic 427 they put in full size cars of that era, but it made the lightweight corvette go fast! GM restricted the 427 to corvettes and full sized cars, however Don Yenko and others would be rectifying that the next year.

11:10 Seriously? It’s easier to replace a Holley carburetor than rebuild it? Holley is easy to work on. How cheap is a new Holley these days?
MrJeffcoley1
MrJeffcoley1 26 days ago
@Richie B I did look it up, and no Holley carbs are not $100. I think a lot of people are frightened of carburetors, they think they're black magic or something, and are willing to pay anything to avoid messing with one. Which is really silly, especially with regard to Holley which are super easy to work on.
Richie B
Richie B 26 days ago
@MrJeffcoley1 the question was how much does a NEW Holley carb cost? I guessed $800... probably less than that... New 4150 from Holley ~ $500
MrJeffcoley1
MrJeffcoley1 26 days ago
@Richie B If the Car Wizard charges that much to rebuild a carb, then he's really telling us he doesn't want to work on carbs so he charges a prohibitively high price. For real - you can rebuild a Holley with nothing more than two screwdrivers, and about an hour.
Richie B
Richie B 26 days ago

@MrJeffcoley1 YT sabotage! No link. Thanks! I did get into a Corvette user group last night until I blacked out!! Our “user group “ was a gas station (back when there WERE real gas stations!). Except for a mopar or two it was all GM and mostly Chevy. I remember the time I wanted a bigger carb (bigger is better, right?) for my 70 SS396 but couldn’t get a Holley dialed in, no matter what we tried. Eventually rebuilt the Roch. Best times!
